Mumma Is Unwell!

Fever virus is largely responsible for this long break in posting. First it was me, closely followed by my papa and now my mumma- all down with fever in quick succession- but mumma's is somewhat different than ours as she had developed some rashes yesterday. We rushed her to doctor and are now waiting for her dengue test results. I hope it comes fine as mumma has already put me off her feed- I was made to do away with it last night-forcibly by them and reluctantly by me.

Amidst all this, one crucial development was my ability to recite all the letters of English alphabet- from A to Z, thanks to youtube. And yes, I have also befriended "big green monster and scary witch". More on this later!

Dressing Visits To The Hospital!

My burn wounds are healing as planned and I will be going to Medanta hospital for my final dressing visit- my fourth since last tuesday. Earlier fears of heat induced infection looks very remote now as my doctor feels that post burning act of putting me under water has helped limit the damage to my inner skin- thank you papa!

I must thank my mom too for managing hospital visits in the absence of my papa and Ashu chacha, as both of them were travelling. You know it is extremely difficult to commute in Gurgaon if one doesn't know how to drive.......and, my mom can't drive.....

Coming back to my injury, I still have a bandage wrapped around my waist and trust me it is not at all comfortable with sun powered heat wave registering in excess of 45 degrees.......Doctor has given some anti allergics to help me manage itching etc. Right now my mom's focus is on healing and I am sure it will not be much before it will turn towards erasing the scar......fact that I am still a 18 month old will surely help!

I have so much to write but then I would like to do that in my next post; I have to go and eat my breakfast........medicines are waiting!

Funny Moments and Burn Wounds!

6 days have elapsed since I logged-in my last post. And, those six days have been eventful by all means- I travelled 800 kms over the weekend, visited hills for the first time, rode a pony, deliberately allowed cool breeze to hit my face repeatedly after tasting the pleasure of looking out of windows of the moving car, walked the streets of a small bazaar at Gaja (place where my papa is setting up his camp), did lot of running around our lawns of our Dehradun home, played with my dada and dadee, splashed water all over after taking a dip inside our own kid-pool, visited my nana-nanee; in short I had lot of fun......... but everything turned into a distant memory minutes after we reached our Gurgaon home...........A freak accident involving Santoshi didi and a tea cup left me nursing my burn wounds when I should have been sharing about my trip with my Rudra bhai.

My papa, tired after driving non stop from Dehradun to Gurgaon in less than 5 hours, asked for tea......While he was waiting for his tea, I began playing with my Rudra bhai, who I was meeting after a gap of 3 days......mom got busy checking her work emails......Soon thereafter, Santoshi didi made an entry with two tea cups on a tray in her hand.......She bent downwards to adjust her slippers, fumbled and spilled over one cup filled with hot tea over my back.......Screaming and screeching, I bursted into tears....Papa came running, lifted me and took me straight to the bathroom to pour cold water over my burnt back......outer layer of my skin had already started to peel off by then and the diameter of the affected area was increasing with every passing moment......Crying incessantly, I was staring at my mom and papa hoping them to do some magic......Papa called for ice cubes and cold water and would put me inside the tub filled with cold water........But, burning sensation was not giving any signs of tapering off.........seeing the skin peel off rendered my mom motionless; she started competing with me in terms of crying .......Shikha chachee too joined in soon thereafter.......Santoshi didi, filled with guilt was no less different.........

My papa's patience had already given up by then and he shouted at everyone to keep quiet...... He then called our new landlord (Rohit uncle)for the directions to the nearby doctor......Rohit uncle told my papa to follow his car to Dr Yadav's clinic ......... I was lying inconsolably on my mom's lap who was pouring cold water on my burn wounds......Soon, we reached the clinic but my screaming cries would not stop until dressing was complete.......All along this, my worried dada and dadee kept calling as they had seen me off few hours back and I was all smiles then......

Later, my papa called up Vaishali aunty who suggested papa to consult Dr. Aditya as he had treated Tanvi didi in the past for burn wounds.......So we then went to Medanta Hospital to consult Dr. Aditya; who gave me some pain killers and vitamins.......I have to go to doctor again for next round of dressing........He will be able to suggest the next line of treatment only after examining my wounds today......As per him, burn wounds have a tendency to evolve after two-three days......Will keep you posted on the same!

Back To Normal!

I am back to normal after my first comprehensive date with viral fever. Honestly speaking, I didn't like this date at all and dont want to meet that monster ever again. I have lot of people to thank for their help and Mr. Antibiotics is surely one of them; but then his help never comes for free- he not only affected my apettite but also made me irritable.....not anymore though!

Now that I have regained my usual routine, our fights have started and so have all the jumping/ dancing, shouting and youtube sessions (that's where we see all those nursery rhymes.... my favourite video these days is that of a small girl called Chulbuli......infact my papa has already started calling my Chulbuli.......Not many would disagree with him that I am one! here

Why don't you have a look at that other Chulbuli?

My Date With Fever & A Scare

Everything was going-on as usual till about 3 pm (Thursday afternoon) when Santoshi didi took me in her arms to change my diapers. She could feel the heat coming out of my body and immediately informed my nanee; apparently, I was running very high fever! Before they could realise anything, I fainted........ In that moment of extreme anxiety, didi forgot my mom's telephone number and my nanee too didn't have anyone's. On a normal day, my Shikha chachee would have been there to take care of this emergency but as luck would have it, she was at the hospital with my Ashu chacha- he underwent twin surgery on his hand for removal of earlier inserted instrument. Luckily, my mom had written my Mamta mausi's telephone number on a piece of paper for my nanee's benefit. So, my nanee called her up who in turn informed my mom. My worried mom immediately called up my papa; who was sitting with his CEO for budget discussion- luckily he picked up her phone and rushed back home leaving the meeting midway.

Upon reaching home, my papa found me shivering in my nanee's arm......he immediately took me into his lap and started talking to my listless face.......that usual smile with which I used to greet him was completely missing; lack of my usual facial expressions left him worried. So he brought me out in the open.......a good move in that situation as it led me into a talking mode, albeit in a feeble voice- pointing my finger towards the car, I said- "jaana (meaning I want to go)".....Going by his reaction, it seemed as if my father was waiting to hear me say that. He told my nanee to rush inside the car and handed me over to her lap.........Driving towards the hospital, he called up my mom and told her to reach there directly. But as she was closer home by then, she chose to wait outside our colony's main gate.

As soon as we reached the main gate, I could see my mom running towards our car, sight of her running brought smile back on my face- feeblest of my smile till date, but a significant one. Taking me into her arms, she was crying inconsolably....a reprimand from my papa could only stop her from crying anymore and it did ......

Just by being in mom's lap was enough to shore up my energy levels......my fingers began pointing towards the moving cars, bikes, buses and rickshaws- identifying them in an extremely weak voice but good enough to relieve tensions of my parent's faces.

As soon as we reached hospital, we immediately rushed into Doctor's chamber.....The doctor examined me and found me running fever in excess of 102F......so, he prescribed me some medicines for viral fever and told my parents to put cold water sponge on my body and head..... He observed that I had fainted because of high fever and told my parents to report to him any such recurrence immediately.

I was administered first dose of my prescribed medicines as soon as we reached home....and fever began to subside shortly thereafter. By then my Ashu chacha, Shikha chachee and Rudra bhai too had reached home.

In the evening, I insisted on going for a walk and my mom took me out to the nearby market. She bought a pair of hockey sticks and few crazy balls for me and my Rudra bhai; soon our drawing room transformed into a hockey field.

Later, I ate my dinner and I was about to retire off to the bed when fever lapsed again to go past 103F this time.......Another dose of medicine followed.

From then on, my fever and combiflam started playing a game of hide and seek every 6-8 hours and would continue to play it until Sunday evening.......

As my fever kept lapsing every 6-8 hours, doctor uncle told my mom to start antibiotics with effect from Friday night. Those antibiotics did manage to break the spell of fever, however it had also resulted in lot of weakness in my body and some mouth ulcers. Doctor uncle is saying that I will have to deal with it for next few days as I have never taken antibiotics in the past.

Now that, I have not experienced fever post sunday evening, I am hoping that my first date with it has ended......truly speaking neither of us would want to see me date it again......

Trust me repeated journeys from 98.4F to 103.8F do no good to my body.....I am happy to walk for miles instead!

My Rudra Bhai Did It Again

.....as he manages to pass on his throat infection to me; that too for the second time during past one month. My doctor says that my throat is too bad and I also have a congestion in my chest... So, now I will have to take a triple cocktail of syrups for next five days. Hopefully, I won't need any antibiotics; so that's one piece of good news....

He has further recommended to take bananas off my daily diet and has advised my mom to avoid chilled water and pickles....... And, I will have to avoid lemon as well..... Too bad as I love lemons!

Doctor Says...

...that I am looking pale; possibly because of anemia or teething .......My weight too hasn't increased in last 15-20 days. On the contrary it has reduced a bit or is stagnant, to say the least. This would mean that my parents now have few extra creases up on their foreheads..... Besides, there is an added emphasis on all iron diet- mashed apple, broccoli soup, iron supplement, dates etc...Of all, I hate iron supplement as it tastes yuckkkk.... But, then I am helpless before my parent's combined physical strength!

I am hoping that my iron deficiency will go away soon and I will not have to taste that iron supplement anymore afterwards. `

I am Running Fever.....

....since early Monday morning.......Actually, this fever bug in our house first caught hold of my Rudra bhai; he is running fever for past 3 days. Now, it seems that he has passed on the same to me........or should I say that the cruel bacteria or virus (whatever the case may be) was increasingly getting jealous of me and my immunity system.........So, it chose to hit me using an unlikely carrier- my Rudra bhai's morning kisses.......

Never mind! I will be fine and am not going to let this bacteria or virus come in the way of my brother's morning greetings; I love to hear him say- "Chooooooooooo cshweeeeet!"- 1st update posted Monday afternoon at around 4 pm.

Edited to add: Latest update- Seeing no improvement in my situation even after administering one dose of paracetamol; my worried parents took me to my doctor. His clinic was already full with an average waiting time of close to an hour; it seems lot of other kids have also been affected by this virus......

By the time my turn came, I was already running 101F fever. However, my doctor didn't find it alarming and said that my fever will go away in next three days.....He prescribed me some medicines for that duration. I have already taken my first dose of those medicines and am feeling much better now. My smile is back; watery eyes and running nose notwithstanding!
In addition to my cheerful smile, my boisterous shouting is also back......... You can actually hear me shout in the following video; only if you un-mute your speakers.

Edited again on Tuesday morning at 2.15 am- Imagine an eight and half old month kid running fever in excess of 101F in the hot and humid month of July; there is no electricity supply for past 4 hours and your power back up which was good for only two hours has already given up..........How do you expect parents of that kid to react? Let me answer this from my own experience as that kid was none other than me........

Understanding the importance of electricity supply restoration in the given situation, my father first tried his best to get in touch with the DLF and the electricity department officials over phone......After his failure to establish those contacts, he decided to physically visit DLF office........That too went in vain as there was no one else but an operator sitting there to take calls. This lackadaisical attitude on the part of DLF blew his top and the person in charge of maintenance at DLF had to bear the brunt of his anger and frustration over phone. That man must be thanking his stars for not being physically present in front of my father in that mood of anger and rage. All along this, mom was doing her best to reduce my temperature by using wet cotton pads..............in the candle light using a book as a fan.........

Later, my mom suggested my father to take me inside our car.......It was a good decision as I took no time to go back to sleep after getting inside the car........Mom and papa too were sleepy, but they decided against that as car ignition was on......After 10 minutes, my Ashu chacha called up to inform that electricity current has been restored. This left me wondering as to why we didn’t choose this option earlier!

I am back in my own bed sleeping comfortably as fever has subsided; wet cotton pads definitely helped!

Summer Of 2009

Summers are fast nudging towards its prime with last few days’ temperatures making it the hottest Delhi April in last 5 years. It won’t be long before the city will start clocking temperatures in excess of 40 degrees Celsius on a continuous basis. I have my Garhwali genes to blame when it comes to coping up with the heat. The ill-effects are already there to see; it doesn’t take much for my full sleeves tee-shirts to be completely soaked of my sweat. That prompted my mom to begin experimenting with the half sleeves tee-shirts yesterday. However it had to be shelved today as I have a running nose since yesterday. In addition to that, my parents have also decided to postpone their plans to start the air-conditioners by another week.

On the personal front, I don’t have much to write today as I am still adjusting to the reality of parents at work during the day time. My wait for them finishes at around 6pm when mom comes back; my papa is taking longer these days due to year end work and reaches home after 9pm only. Our respective ways to greet each other is however same- my big smile and their warm embrace of me followed by a peck on my cheeks; enough to make us forget those afternoon hours of separation.

And, now an update on my Renu bua- doctor has said that she has a Pylori-H infection; for which she needs to take medicine for 6 weeks. Please take care my bua and know that I love you a lot.

My Questions?

Every morning my parents go to work leaving me at home with my nanee. And, unlike past couple of days, I wasn't sleeping when they left for work this morning; I woke up as they were about to leave. Still, I would see them off with a smile on my face. Yes! I was smiling but then I must have asked myself following questions-

~ Where do they go to everyday?
~ Do they miss me or think of me while they are away?
~ If it is really essential to leave me at home for work?
~ If it is a good trade-off?
~ Do I miss them and count the number of hours left for re-union?
~ How would this temporary separation of few hours affect our mutual relationship?
~ How do other children cope with the separation anxieties?
~ Why do I smile moments after I see my parents back from work in the evening?
~ If this temporary separation of few hours make me any different from what I would have been without any spectre of every morning's separation.
~ Do I enjoy taking top feed or I do that just to fight hunger during noon time.

I am looking for answers and any possible answers are welcome!

Well, my papa is bit sad as my Renu bua is unwell in Uganda. She has a stomach ache and doctors are saying that it is due to malaria. My Rakesh mama is travelling for work and is in Rwanda these days; he will return tomorrow morning. My worried papa has already called up my bua twice. Renu bua-I am thinking of you as well as my Ridhima didi; you will get well soon. Don't worry Rakesh mama will be back tomorrow. I know it must be tough to be alone in a far-away land but don't forget that you are my courageous bua. And above all, God is always there to help us.
